Slideshow: The Birth of Jonathon Reinhardt

Libby. What can I say about Libby that I haven’t said before? To say that she is one of the strongest people I know, would be an understatement. Photographing her birth was a rollercoaster of emotions. Though she saw herself with a large family, she had let the idea go that she would be the one in labor and giving birth. And here she was, birth plan in mind, contractions coming fast and furious. Her moment had finally come.
Every birth that I have attended has been so different. In Libby’s case, she went from 2 centimeters dilated to “9 and a lil’ bit” in just over and hour. It was intense, shocking, and exciting. Due to Pubic Symphysis Separation, Jonathon did need a little bit of help with entering this world. There was a flurry of people in that tiny birthing room, all there to make sure the little man was ok. Despite having a long and rough birth, Jonathon had apgar scores of 9 and 9…and was absolutely perfect. Quite literally one of the cutest newborns I’ve ever seen.
